Controlling the frequency response of an engineering component or structure is important in aerospace and automotive sectors a key consideration when seeking new more efficient design for given component. In this contribution, standard truss layout optimization procedure modified to incorporate semidefinite constraints limit minimum value first natural frequency. Since increases computational expense reduces scale problem that can be solved, bespoke algorithm incorporating adaptive ‘member adding’ proposed applied number benchmark example problems. It demonstrated allows problems solved with relatively fine numerical discretization, allowing structures acceptable successfully identified.
