چکیده
The mechanical properties of magnetic materials are instrumental for the development magnetoelastic theories and optimization strain-modulated devices. In particular, two-dimensional (2D) magnets hold promise to enlarge these concepts into realm low-dimensional physics ultrathin However, no experimental study on intrinsic archetypal 2D magnet family chromium trihalides has thus far been performed. Here, we report room temperature layer-dependent atomically thin CrCl3 CrI3, finding that bilayers have Young’s moduli 62.1 43.4 GPa, highest sustained strains 6.49% 6.09% breaking strengths 3.6 2.2 respectively. This portrays outstanding plasticity is qualitatively demonstrated in bulk crystals. current will contribute applications magnetostrictive flexible

Note: Mechanical in situ exfoliation of van der Waals materials.
Exfoliation, namely, the peeling of layered materials down to a single unit-cell thin foil, opens promising avenues to fabricate novel electronic materials. New properties and original functionalities emerge in the single and few layer configurations of a number of layered compounds, in particular in transition metal dichalcogenides. However, many of these thin exfoliated materials are very sen...
متن کاملThe van der Waals interaction
The interaction between charged particles via the Coulomb interaction is one of the most important features in physics and is familiar to any student of the subject. The way in which electrons and protons bind to form the hydrogen atom is also well known and is a staple of any quantum mechanics course. However, less familiar is the interaction between such bound systems at separation R, which i...
متن کاملTunable Electronic Properties in van der Waals Heterostructure Germanene/Germanane
It is challenging to epitaxially grow germanene on conventional semiconductor substrate. Based on first-principles calculations, we investigate the structural and electronic properties of germanene/germanane heterostructure (HTS). The results indicate that the Dirac cone with nearly linear band dispersion of germanene maintains in the band gap of substrate. Remarkably, the band gap opened in th...

We present a dynamic van der Waals theory starting with entropy and energy functional with gradient contributions. The resultant hydrodynamic equations contain the stress arising from the density gradient. It provides a general scheme of two-phase hydrodynamics involving the gas-liquid transition in nonuniform temperature. Some complex hydrodynamic processes with evaporation and condensation ar...

As a fast emerging topic, van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures have been proposed to modify two-dimensional layered materials with desired properties, thus greatly extending the applications of these materials. In this work, the stacking characteristics, electronic structures, band edge alignments, charge density distributions and optical properties of blue phosphorene/transition metal dichalco...
