Lateral Crushing of Square Aluminium Tubes Filled with Different Cores

Thin-walled tubular structures are widely used in industries such as automotive, aerospace and military because of their lightweight excellent performance under different loading conditions. This study aimed to investigate the lateral crushing square aluminium tubes filled with cores (honeycomb, polyurethane foam mixed these two fillers). Different failure modes tested have been observed they progressive plastic hinges formed middle tube wall, cracks at corners some fractures honeycomb core. Results show that was significantly improved when using filler (honeycomb foam). The average load, energy dissipation specific absorption core increased up 638%, 451% 177% respectively compared those for hollow tubes.
