چکیده
Abstract In the western Tafilalt area, eastern Anti-Atlas (Morocco), solutan echinoderms are a major faunal element of most echinoderm Lagerstätten occurring within Lower Ktaoua Formation (late Sandbian–early Katian). For first time, members class Soluta formally described from Morocco and Africa. All solutans identified as Dendrocystites aff. sedgwicki . Three size-related morphotypes, probably corresponding to successive growth stages (‘juvenile’, ‘adult’ ‘gerontic’), could be distinguished abundant well-preserved material Morocco. Palaeogeographic implications of a new iocrinid crinoid (Disparida) from the Ordovician (Darriwillian) of Morocco
Complete, articulated crinoids from the Ordovician peri-Gondwanan margin are rare. Here, we describe a new species, Iocrinus africanus sp. nov., from the Darriwilian-age Taddrist Formation of Morocco. The anatomy of this species was studied using a combination of traditional palaeontological methods and non-destructive X-ray micro-tomography (micro-CT). This revealed critical features of the co...

متن کاملPalaeogeography and palaeoecology of early Floian (Early Ordovician) cephalopods from the Upper Fezouata Formation, AntiAtlas, Morocco
This is the first description of Ordovician cephalopods from Morocco. Although their occurrence has been known for a long time, only a poorly preserved conch from the late Katian of Ikhf n’Ouzerg (central Anti-Atlas) was described as “Orthoceras hastile Barrande” by Termier & Termier (1950). In some cases Ordovician cephalopods were mentioned within faunal lists without classification (e.g., Gu...
متن کاملFirst mammal fossil locality from the late Miocene of Zagros, western Iran
A new and the first mammal fossil locality from the Zagros Basin of Iran is reported here. The fossil locality, known as Dimeh, is located in the Lorestan province, west of Iran. The fauna includes abundant bovid cranial remains, mostly representing boselaphines and palaeoryxoids, as well as gazelles and spiral horned antelopes. Hipparionine horses similar to Hippotherium group are also represe...
متن کاملThe magnitude and duration of Late Ordovician-Early Silurian glaciation.
Understanding ancient climate changes is hampered by the inability to disentangle trends in ocean temperature from trends in continental ice volume. We used carbonate "clumped" isotope paleothermometry to constrain ocean temperatures, and thereby estimate ice volumes, through the Late Ordovician-Early Silurian glaciation. We find tropical ocean temperatures of 32° to 37°C except for short-lived...
