Late Holocene Climate Changes in the Altai Region Based on a First High?Resolution Biomarker Isotope Record From Lake Khar Nuur

چکیده
The Late Holocene marks a substantial cultural and economic transition in the eastern Eurasian Steppe Altai Region with dispersal of nomadic pastoralism. So far, paleoclimate conditions during this time remain unclear controversial. Here, we present high-resolution 4.2 ka record from Lake Khar Nuur Mongolian that is based on lake sediment proxies biomarker compound-specific ?2H analyses. Our results document increased aridity before ?3.7 cal. BP, followed by two pronounced phases warm wet ?3.5–2.8 to ?2.3–1.5 strong increase since ?1.5 BP. Phases warmer wetter coincide negative North Atlantic Oscillation, which has been responsible for advecting moisture into region more southerly-displaced Westerlies possibly favored expansion mobile pastoralism region.

Sedimentological evidence of the level and climate changes of Lake Zeribar in the Holocene
Lakes are very interesting sedimentary environments for the study of ancient climate, changes in sedimentary environments and lake level changes. Lake Zeribar is situated in the Zagros Mountains, Kurdistan, Iran. The main purpose of this research is to examine grain size sediments, geochronology and clay mineralogy accumulated in Zeribar Lake in order to check the water level fluctuations, clim...
متن کاملBiogeochemical evidence for hydrologic changes during the Holocene in a lake sediment record from
Holocene paleoclimate records from Greenland help us understand the response of the Greenland Ice Sheet and regional oceanic and atmospheric circulation systems to natural climate variability in order to place recent changes in a longer-term perspective. Here biogeochemical analysis of a lake sediment core from southeast Greenland is used to define changes in moisture balance and runoff during ...
متن کاملA Holocene–Late Pleistocene geomagnetic inclination record from Grandfather Lake, SW Alaska
S U M M A R Y Our study of lake sediments from Grandfather Lake in SW Alaska (N59.8181◦, W158.5597◦) yields the first geomagnetic inclination record for Alaska that spans the entire Holocene. The record is based on three overlapping sets of piston cores and is well dated by seven AMS radiocarbon dates. Its magnetic component consists of PSD (5–15μm) magnetite that occurs in concentrations rangi...
متن کاملLate glacial climate record of midwestern United States from the hydrogen isotope ratio of lake organic matter.
A hydrogen isotope time series obtained from an analysis of organic matter extracted from a lake core in Kalamazoo, southwestern Michigan, reveals four distinct isotope stages within the last 12,000 years that can be interpreted in terms of oscillations between cold and warm, dry climates. The most dramatic are a cold phase between 12,000 and 9000 years before present (B.P.), a warm, dry period...
متن کاملCentennial-scale compound-specific hydrogen isotope record of Pleistocene–Holocene climate transition from southern New England
[1] Northeastern North America experienced major climate shifts during the Pleistocene–Holocene transition. However, there have been no high-resolution isotopic records of climate change from this region. Here, we present a centennial-scale record of climate change during the transition based on D/H ratios of behenic acid (C22 nacid) or dDBA from a sediment core in Blood Pond, Massachusetts. Su...
