Randomized Large Neighborhood Search for Cumulative Scheduling
This paper presents a Large Neighborhood Search (LNS) approach based on constraint programming to solve cumulative scheduling problems. It extends earlier work on constraint-based randomized LNS for disjunctive scheduling as reported in (Nuijten & Le Pape 1998). A breakthrough development in generalizing that approach toward cumulative scheduling lies in the presented way of calculating a parti...
متن کاملGaussian Variable Neighborhood Search for the File Transfer Scheduling Problem
This paper presents new modifications of Variable Neighborhood Search approach for solving the file transfer scheduling problem. To obtain better solutions in a small neighborhood of a current solution, we implement two new local search procedures. As Gaussian Variable Neighborhood Search showed promising results when solving continuous optimization problems, its implementation in solving the d...
متن کاملLarge Neighborhood Local Search for the Maximum Set Packing Problem
In this paper we consider the classical maximum set packing problem where set cardinality is upper bounded by k. We show how to design a variant of a polynomial-time local search algorithm with performance guarantee (k + 2)/3. This local search algorithm is a special case of a more general procedure that allows to swap up to Θ(log n) elements per iteration. We also design problem instances with...
متن کاملVery Large-Scale Neighborhood Search for the Quadratic Assignment Problem
The Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP) consists of assigning n facilities to n locations so as to minimize the total weighted cost of interactions between facilities. The QAP arises in many diverse settings, is known to be NP-hard, and can be solved to optimality only for fairly small size instances (typically, n ≤ 25). Neighborhood search algorithms are the most popular heuristic algorithms to...
متن کاملLarge Neighborhood Search for the P-median Problem
In this paper we consider the well known p-median problem. We study the behavior of the local improvement algorithm with a new large neighborhood. Computational experiments on the difficult instances show that the algorithm with the neighborhood is fast and finds feasible solutions with small relative error.
