Large-Eddy Simulations of Wind-Driven Cross Ventilation, Part 2: Comparison of Ventilation Performance Under Different Ventilation Configurations

چکیده

Natural ventilation can contribute to a sustainable and healthy built environment, but the flow be highly dependent on configuration outdoor turbulent wind conditions. As result, quantifying natural rates challenging task. Wind tunnel experiments offer one approach for studying ventilation, measurements are often restricted few points or planes in building, data have limitations due intrusive nature of measurement techniques challenges with optical access. Large-eddy simulations (LES) an effective alternative analyzing flow, since they provide precise prediction at any point computational domain enable accurate estimates different measures. The objective this study is use validated LES set-up investigate effect opening size, location direction through isolated building. effects quantified terms time-averaged instantaneous rates, age air, efficiency. results indicate that, building case, more pronounced than size position openings. Importantly, when primarily driven by fluctuations, e.g. 90° direction, estimation rate requires knowledge velocity field.

Porosity Rendering in High-Performance Architecture: Wind-Driven Natural Ventilation and Porosity Distribution Patterns

Natural ventilation is one of the most essential issues in the concept of high-performance architecture. The porosity has a lot to do with wind-phil architecture to meet high efficiency in integrated architectural design and materialization a high-performance building. Natural ventilation performance in porous buildings is influenced by a wide range of interre...

Effect of fluctuating wind direction on cross natural ventilation in buildings from large eddy simulation

A large eddy simulation (LES) program with the Smagorinsky subgrid-scale model has been used to study cross natural ventilation in buildings, which has experimental data available from on-site measurements and a wind tunnel. Since natural wind changes direction over time, it is hard to reproduce this effect in a conventional wind tunnel where the “wind” direction is fixed. There are discrepanci...

Comparison of the effect of pressure support ventilation and volume assured pressure support ventilation on weaning patients off mechanical ventilation after cardiac surgery

Background: Weaning from mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit is an important step in the treatment process. More patients in less than 6 hours after cardiac surgery can be separated from mechanical ventilation and extubated. However, 20-40% of patients after cardiac surgery, due to dysfunctional ventilator weaning response (DVWR), still remain under mechanical ventilation. Therefo...

The fluid mechanics of natural ventilation-displacement ventilation by buoyancy-driven flows assisted by wind

This paper describes the fluid mechanics of natural ventilation by the combined effects of buoyancy and wind. Attention is restricted to transient draining flows in a space containing buoyant fluid, when the wind and buoyancy forces reinforce one another. The flows have been studied theoretically and the results compared with small-scale laboratory experiments. Connections between the enclosure...

Study of natural ventilation in buildings by large eddy simulation

Natural ventilation in buildings can create a comfortable and healthy indoor environment, and can save energy used in the mechanical ventilation systems. Two subgrid-scale models of large eddy simulation (LES), a Smagorinsky subgrid-scale (SS) model and a Filtered dynamic subgrid-scale (FDS) model, have been used to study airflow in buildings with natural ventilation. It was found that, for ful...
