Large-Eddy Simulation of Cavitating Tip Leakage Vortex Structures and Dynamics around a NACA0009 Hydrofoil

The tip leakage vortex (TLV) has aroused great concern for turbomachine performance, stability and noise generation as well cavitation erosion. To better understand structures dynamics of the TLV, large-eddy simulation (LES) is coupled with a homogeneous model to simulate flow around NACA0009 hydrofoil given clearance. numerical results are validated by comparisons experimental measurements. demonstrate that present LES can predict mean behavior TLV. By visualizing streamlines streamwise vorticity, it shows TLV dominates end-wall structures, evolution other vortices found be closely related development In addition, moves downstream, undergoes an interesting progression, i.e., core radius keeps increasing axial velocity center experiences conversion from jet-like profile wake-like profile.
