Laparoscopic partial splenectomy for a splenic hamartoma

We discuss current knowledge and management of splenic hamartoma, an uncommon form benign tumor. A hamartoma is a rare mass, often found incidentally while working up other complaints, typically treated by surgical resection the mass. In this case, we that was with laparoscopic partial splenectomy. The patient presented in Emergency Department complaining periumbilical pain after having been struck abdomen soccer ball previous day. Following physical exam blood work, ultrasound performed revealed hypoechoic area within spleen. received diagnosis gastroenteritis appointment for follow-up at 2 months. At 2-month follow-up, indicated mass had grown. appeared consistent hemangioma, so scheduled completely resected without any complications. uncomplicated postoperative course. When there are no indications total splenectomy malignancy unlikely, appears to be reasonable treatment modality hamartoma.
