Empty sella turcica is a condition in which the pituitary gland absent completely or partially from fossa. The patient may be asymptomatic with empty as an incidental finding, have symptoms of hormones deficiency. Perioperative management these patients depends on and signs hormonal deficiencies replacement treatment.

Subclinical Cushing syndrome associated with an empty sella turcica.
The coexistence of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)independent Cushing syndrome (CS) and an empty sella (ES) is rare (1, 2). A 53-year-old woman presented with an ES (Picture A, B) and a 40×25-mm left adrenal tumor (Picture C). She had no Cushingoid features, hypertension or diabetes. The levels of morning plasma ACTH, cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate and urinary free cortisol were 1....
متن کاملDiabetes insipidus associated with an empty sella turcica.
A patient with severe diabetes insipidus for 14 years was found to have an enlarged and eroded sella turcica with greatly reduced pituitary tissue on pneumoencephalography. It is suggested that the permanent diabetes insipidus may have resulted from growth of an intrasellar tumour, which subsequently infarcted spontaneously. Thyzoid and pituitary-adrenal function nevertheless remained good, whi...
متن کاملSymptomatic hypopituitarism revealing a primary empty sella turcica.
A 64-year-old nulliparous woman presented with clinical signs of thyroid and adrenocortical insufficiency. Subsequent hormonal investigations demonstrated a failure of all anterior pituitary functions. Pneumotomo-encephalography revealed a large arachnoid herniation, leading to the diagnosis of primary empty sella turcica syndrome with secondary panhypopituitarism. This unusual observation emph...
متن کاملSphenoid sinus osteoma at the sella turcica associated with empty sella: CT and MR imaging findings.
SUMMARY A 50-year-old woman presented with intermittent headache for the past few years. A paranasal sinus CT scan showed a diffusely calcified lesion at the roof of the sphenoid sinus and sella turcica, with the sellar floor bony cortex involved. Empty sella was noted. MR imaging revealed a soft-tissue lesion with low signal intensity on T1-weighted images, high signal intensity on T2-weighted...
متن کاملReproducibility of the sella turcica landmark in three dimensions using a sella turcica-specific reference system
PURPOSE This study was performed to assess the reproducibility of identifying the sella turcica landmark in a three-dimensional (3D) model by using a new sella-specific landmark reference system. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-two cone-beam computed tomographic scans (3D Accuitomo® 170, J. Morita, Kyoto, Japan) were retrospectively collected. The 3D data were exported into the Digital Imaging a...
