Landslide Risk Assessment in Eastern Kentucky, USA: Developing a Regional Scale, Limited Resource Approach

چکیده
Rapidly changing remote sensing technologies (lidar, aerial photography, satellites) provide opportunities to improve regional-scale landslide risk mapping. However, data limitations regarding hazard and exposure influence how is calculated. To develop assessments for a landslide-prone region of eastern Kentucky, USA, we assessed modeling applicability using variable quality data. First, used equation that incorporated the as logistic regression susceptibility model geomorphic variables derived from lidar Susceptibility calculated probability occurrence. The included population, roads, railroads, land class. Our vulnerability value was assumed equal one (worst-case scenario degree loss) consequence economic cost. Results indicate 64.1 percent study area classified moderate high socioeconomic risk. more data-limited approach, 30 m slope-angle map input simplified slope-based approach show distribution less uniform, with large areas over-and under-prediction. Changes in inputs result significant changes maps demonstrate broad range modelling approaches.

Survival of Extremely Preterm Neonates in a Resource-limited Setting
Background: Preterm birth is a major contributor to neonatal and under-five mortality, and births at lower gestational ages (GA) contribute more to these statistics. Most developed countries have succeeded in improving survival at extremes of GA, while most developing countries like Nigeria still lag behind. The objective of this retrospective study was to document the...
متن کاملA spatial framework for regional-scale flooding risk assessment
The mining sector in Australia and globally has always been vulnerable to extreme weather with excess water due to flooding and deficient water through drought. Estimating flood inundation risk at a regional scale is essential for understanding sustainable mine water management, such as the Bowen Basin in Queensland, Australia. In this region, many coal mines have been facing a major challenge ...
متن کاملMulti-scale Robust Modelling of Landslide Susceptibility: Regional Rapid Assessment and Catchment Robust Fuzzy Ensemble
Landslide susceptibility assessment is a fundamental component of effective landslide prevention. One of the main challenges in landslides forecasting is the assessment of spatial distribution of landslide susceptibility. Despite the many different approaches, landslide susceptibility assessment still remains a challenge. A semi-quantitative method is proposed combining heuristic, deterministic...
متن کاملLandslide risk assessment and management: an overview
Landslides can result in enormous casualties and huge economic losses in mountainous regions. In order to mitigate landslide hazard effectively, new methodologies are required to develop a better understanding of landslide hazard and to make rational decisions on the allocation of funds for management of landslide risk. Recent advances in risk analysis and risk assessment are beginning to provi...

INTRODUCTION Health laboratory services are a critical component of national health systems but face major operational challenges in resource-limited (RL) settings. New funding for health systems strengthening in RL countries has increased the demand for diagnostics and provided opportunities to address these constraints. An approach to sustainably strengthen national laboratory systems in sub-...
