Landowner Acceptance of Wind Turbines on Their Land: Insights from a Factorial Survey Experiment

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study uses data from a vignette experiment (n = 401) of large-scale agricultural landowners in western Canada to quantify attributes that enhance acceptance wind farms on their land or municipality. The analysis addresses the role community relationships and procedural fairness development power. Random effects models indicate are more accepting power if such projects include local cooperative ownership, compensation payments neighboring landowners, involvement process. Results suggest perceived injustices could be lessened considerations extended beyond monetary gain.

Identifying key influences for planning acceptance of onshore wind turbines

There is a global drive to develop renewable energy power generation to reduce environmental impacts and enhance energy security especially through indigenous resources. Wind energy conversion both on and offshore is one of the most effective technologies to provide sustainable power. In the deployments of such technologies, geographical information systems are extensively used to identify suit...

Noise Spectra from Wind Turbines

This paper presents observations of audio noise in frequency range 20-20 000 Hz from wind turbines. The observations were performed around the theoretically calculated 40 dBA noise perimeter around the wind turbine farm at Oxhult, Sweden. This paper describes a newly designed and constructed a field qualified data acquisition system to measure spectra and total noise level of sound from wind tu...

Infrasound Emission from Wind Turbines

A critical survey of all known published measurement results of infrasound from wind turbines has been made. The survey indicates that wind turbines of contemporary design with an upwind rotor generate very faint infrasound with a level far below the threshold of perception even at a rather short distance. From considerations on propagation and transmission of infrasound it is concluded that in...

Transient Thunderstorm Downbursts and Their Effects on Wind Turbines

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standard 61400-1 for the design of wind turbines does not explicitly address site-specific conditions associated with anomalous atmospheric events or conditions. Examples of off-standard atmospheric conditions include thunderstorm downbursts, hurricanes, tornadoes, low-level jets, etc. The simulation of thunderstorm downbursts and associated l...
