Land Cover Change Effects on Stormflow Characteristics across Broad Hydroclimate Representative Urban Watersheds in the United States

چکیده

Urban development alters stormflow characteristics and is associated with increasing flood risks. The long-term evaluation of that exacerbate floods, such as peak time-to-peak at varying levels urbanization across different hydroclimates, limited. This study investigated the (1980s to 2010s) effects on key using observed 15 min streamflow data six broad hydroclimate representative urban watersheds in conterminous United States. results indicate upward trends downward four out watersheds. watershed Great Plains region had largest annual (decreasing) percent change (time-to-peak stormflow). With current rates, expected increase by 55.4% have a 2.71 h faster next decade.

Impacts of recent climate change on trends in baseflow and stormflow in United States watersheds

Characterizing the impacts of climatic change on hydrologic processes is critical for managing freshwater systems. Specifically, there is a need to evaluate how the two major components of streamflow, baseflow and stormflow, have responded to recent trends in climate. We derive baseflow and stormflow for 674 sites throughout the United States from 1980 to 2010 to examine their associations with...

Impact of urban land cover change on land surface temperature

The rapid growth in urban population is seen to create a need for the development of more urban infrastructures. In order to meet this need, natural surfaces such as vegetation are been replaced with non-vegetated surfaces such as asphalt and bricks which has the ability to absorb heat and release it later. This change in land cover is seen to increase the land surface temperature. Previous stu...

Microclimate land surface temperatures across urban land use/ land cover forms

Urbanization brings biophysical changes in the composition of the landscape. Such change has an impact on the thermal environment locally. The urban mosaic of land use and land cover is thus characteristically composed of local climate zones. The spatial variation in the land surface temperature across specific zone is studied for Bhopal city. The objective of the study was to understand how th...

Land-cover change and avian diversity in the conterminous United States.

Changes in land use and land cover have affected and will continue to affect biological diversity worldwide. Yet, understanding the spatially extensive effects of land-cover change has been challenging because data that are consistent over space and time are lacking. We used the U.S. National Land Cover Dataset Land Cover Change Retrofit Product and North American Breeding Bird Survey data to e...

The importance of land cover change across urban-rural typologies for climate modeling.

Land cover changes affect local surface energy balances by changing the amount of solar energy reflected, the magnitude and duration over which absorbed energy is released as heat, and the amount of energy that is diverted to non-heating fluxes through evaporation. However, such local influences often are only crudely included in climate modeling exercises, if at all. A better understanding of ...
