Using Lady Caroline Lamb as a case study, this essay models book historical approach to the author function and introduces concept of recuperative materiality—repairing one’s reputation through circulation material objects. It resituates within broad media context highlights her diverse creative output in sheet music, literary annuals, illustrations children’s books, an account book. These objects moral reputations those who produced consumed them imbued with respectability after notorious affair Byron, career reveals complex landscape that created circulated Romantic-era authorial identity.
