Lacustrine evidence reveals spatially and temporally distinct holocene ruptures on the Sawtooth Fault, Central Idaho, USA

چکیده

The Sawtooth Fault in central Idaho, USA, is a range-bounding normal fault with Late Pleistocene–Holocene scarp near the up-valley ends of several range-front lakes. Cores from Redfish Lake, which spans fault, exhibit evidence catastrophic sediment re-mobilization two sequences consisting variably intraclastic mud-clast conglomerate, massive homogenite, and graded silt clay. Event strata younger sequence are unconformable contact Pleistocene sediments cores on northern lake-basin slope, suggesting transport down-valley portion lake toward basin center. A cap associated event preserved at all coring sites. sequence, distributed lake-wide, dates to ca. 4300 cal bp, while additional Lake pre-date 7627 bp Mazama ash. We propose seismic triggering disruptions. Asynchronous stratigraphy Pettit 15 km south suggests distinct ruptures along portions Fault. sedimentology geochemistry remobilized both lakes indicates that sources included early Holocene lake-floor failures cut deeply into sedimentary sequence. collected Stanley (17 northwest Lake) following nearby 2020 M6.5 earthquake thin, sandy horizon documented delta collapse. Subaerial slope left no widespread disturbance Lake. conclude large-magnitude remobilization events probably required rupture sections proximal

Climate-related cyclic deposition of carbonate and organic matter in Holocene lacustrine sediment, Lower Michigan, USA

Records from lake sediment cores are critical for assessing the relative stability of climate and ecosystems over the Holocene. Duck Lake in south-central Lower Michigan, USA, was the focus of a study that identified how changes in the geochemical variables in lake sediments relate to variations in regional climate and local land use during the Holocene. More than 8.5 m of lacustrine sediment w...

Extracellular Acidification Elicits Spatially and Temporally Distinct Ca2+ Signals

Extracellular acidification accompanies neoplastic transformation of tissues and increases with tumor aggressiveness [1, 2]. The intracellular signaling cascade triggered by this process remains poorly understood and may be linked to recently discovered proton-activated G protein-coupled receptors such as OGR1 and G2A [3, 4]. Here, we report that OGR1 and G2A are expressed in human medulloblast...

Holocene records of Dendroctonus bark beetles in high elevation pine forests of Idaho and Montana, USA

Paleoecological reconstructions from two lakes in the U.S. northern Rocky Mountain region of Idaho and Montana revealed the presence of bark beetle elytra and head capsules (cf. Dendroctonus spp., most likely D. ponderosae, mountain pine beetle). Occurrence of these macrofossils during the period of time associated with the 1920/1930 A.D. mountain pine beetle outbreak at Baker Lake, Montana sug...

Structural evidence on strike slip Kinematic inversion of the Kushk-e-Nosrat Fault zone, Central Iran

NW-tending faults in Central Iran are expected to represent dominant dextral components due to their orientation with respect to the northward motion of the Arabian Plate with respect to Eurasia. However, previously published works, as well as the focal mechanism solution of the area's earthquakes, indicate evidence of sinistral kinematic along the major faults in Central Iran. Here we present ...

Climate Change Impact on Salmonid Spawning in Low-gradient Streams in Central Idaho, Usa

Climate change is often predicted to cause a significant perturbation to watershed hydrology. It has been generally associated with negative impacts on natural systems, especially in conjunction with conservation and protection of sensitive ecosystems. In the U.S., spawning habitats of threatened and endangered salmonid species are important areas that are potentially vulnerable to climate chan...
