Labels on bars of solid chocolate and chocolate bar sweets in the Polish market: A nutritional approach and implications for the consumer

The nutritional characteristics of chocolate products may be associated with very different, and even opposite, health effects. In the present study, we collected information on Polish market to assess: (i) characteristics; (ii) ingredient order; (iii) presence claims label; (iv) packaging (v) any association between price cocoa contents. A total 220 bars solid (90 % at least 5 ingredients) 147 bar sweets 6 were evaluated. Mean values for calorie, lipid, saturated fatty acid, carbohydrate, protein, sugar salt contents significantly different sweets, although widely dispersed in both categories. Some aspects food labelling result confusion consumer (such as “vegan” claims). weak (r = 0.459), significant (p < 0.05), was found content (€/kg) chocolate, no sweets. Thus, depending product selection, benefits rather different: an aspect not evident most consumers based current labelling.
