L-band Integral Field Spectroscopy of the HR 8799 Planetary System

چکیده
Understanding the physical processes sculpting appearance of young gas-giant planets is complicated by degeneracies confounding effective temperature, surface gravity, cloudiness, and chemistry. To enable more detailed studies, spectroscopic observations covering a wide range wavelengths required. Here we present first L-band HR 8799 d e low-resolution bandwidth measurements c. These were facilitated an upgraded LMIRCam/ALES instrument at LBT, together with new apodizing phase plate coronagraph. Our data are generally consistent previous photometric similar wavelengths, yet there exists some tension narrowband photometry for With addition our spectra, each three innermost observed in system have had their spectral energy distributions measured integral field spectroscopy $\sim0.9$ to $4.1~\mu\mathrm{m}$. We combine these spectra from literature fit synthetic model atmospheres. demonstrate that bolometric luminosity not sensitive choice atmosphere used interpolate between extrapolate beyond them. Combining age mass constraints, show predictions evolutionary models narrowly peaked planetary radius. By holding parameters predicted values, flexible cloud can provide good fits while being expectations models.

Is the HR 8799 extrasolar system destined for planetary scattering?
The recent discovery of a three-planet extrasolar system of HR 8799 by Marois et al. is a breakthrough in the field of the direct imaging. This great achievement raises questions on the formation and dynamical stability of the HR 8799 system, because Keplerian fits to astrometric data are strongly unstable during ∼ 0.2 Myr. We search for stable, self-consistent N-body orbits with the so called ...
متن کاملA Search for Wide Companions to the Extrasolar Planetary System HR 8799
The extrasolar planetary system around HR 8799 is the first multiplanet system ever imaged. It is also, by a wide margin, the highest mass system with > 27 Jupiters of planetary mass past 25 AU. This is a remarkable system with no analogue with any other known planetary system. In the first part of this paper we investigate the nature of two faint objects imaged near the system. These objects a...
متن کاملThe Debris Disk around Hr 8799
We have obtained a full suite of Spitzer observations to characterize the debris disk around HR 8799 and to explore how its properties are related to the recently discovered set of three massive planets orbiting the star. We distinguish three components to the debris system: (1) warm dust (T ∼ 150 K) orbiting within the innermost planet; (2) a broad zone of cold dust (T ∼ 45 K) with a sharp inn...
متن کاملHst/nicmos Detection of Hr 8799 B in 1998
Three planets have been directly imaged around the young star HR 8799. The planets are 5–13 MJup and orbit the star at projected separations of 24–68 AU. While the initial detection occurred in 2007, two of the planets were recovered in a re-analysis of data obtained in 2004. Here we present a detection of the furthest planet of that system, HR 8799 b, in archival HST/NICMOS data from 1998. The...
متن کاملStability of the Directly Imaged Multiplanet System Hr 8799: Resonance and Masses
A new era of directly imaged extrasolar planets has produced a three-planet system (Marois et al. 2008), where the masses of the planets have been estimated by untested cooling models. We point out that the nominal circular, face-on orbits of the planets lead to a dynamical instability in ∼ 10 yr, a factor of at least 100 shorter than the estimated age of the star. Relaxing the face-on assumpti...
