چکیده
This paper presents the results of first characterization coincident Ku- and Ka-band ocean surface normalized radar cross section measurements at earth incidence angles 0°–18° using one year wide swath Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission dual frequency precipitation (DPR) data. Empirical geophysical model functions were derived for both bands, isotropic directorial sensitivity assessed, finally, sea temperature (SST) dependence backscatter, investigated. The exhibited higher vector wind a low-to-moderate speeds regime, SST effects also observed to be substantially larger than Ku-band.

Ku-Band Sea Surface Radar Backscatter at Low Incidence Angles under Extreme Wind Conditions
This paper reports Ku-band normalized radar cross section (NRCS) at low incidence angles ranging from 0◦ to 18◦ and in the wind speed range from 6 to 70 m/s. The precipitation radar onboard the tropical rainfall measuring mission and Jason-1 and 2 have provided 152 hurricanes observations between 2008 and 2013 that were collocated with stepped-frequency microwave radiometer measurements. It is ...
متن کاملOcean Surface Backscattering at Extremely Low Grazing Angles Observed by C-band Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar
RADAR A C-band (5.34 Ghz) multi-parameter radar has been operated in the Okinawa Subtropical Remote Sensing Center, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Japan. It is a full-polarimetric radar with Doppler measurement capability, located on the top of a mountain in the center of the Okinawa Island (128.06oE, 26.59oN, 360m above sea level), southernmost part of ...
متن کاملEffects of rain on Ku-band backscatter from the ocean
[1] During the Kwajalein Experiment (KWAJEX) in July and August 1999, measurements of the normalized radar cross section of the ocean, so, were made at Ku-band with HH and VV polarizations from the R/V Ronald H. Brown. Data were collected at a variety of incidence angles during periods of rainfall as well as during clear conditions. During the experiment the rainfall rate ranged from 0 to 80 mm...
متن کاملGlobal Precipitation Mission (GPM) and Dual-Wavelength Radar (DPR)
Global precipitation measurement is essential not only for the research of the global change but also for the water resources management. Currently, satellite precipitation measurement is not sufficient for the detailed study of the precipitation and is far from enough for the water resources management which requires very high spatial and temporal resolution. To fill the gap at least partly, t...
متن کاملSimulation of Space-borne Radar Observations of Precipitation at Ku and Ka Band
Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) is poised to be the next generation precipitation observations from space after the TRMM mission. The GPM will carry a dual-frequency precipitation radar (DPR), operating at Ku and Ka band frequencies. Since space-borne precipitation observations have never been done in Ka band before, extensive research work on dualfrequency radar, including electromagnet...
