Knowledge and Practice of Breast Self-Examination among Female Community Health Volunteers in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, Province No. 1, Nepal

Background: Regular breast self-examination is the most cost-effective method for early detection of cancer. Female community health volunteers (FCHVs) could play an important role in teaching about (BSE). We aimed to assess knowledge and practice among FCHVs. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using census sampling select FCHVs from all 20 wards Dharan sub-metropolitan city. Face-to-face interview a semi-structured questionnaire collect information related BSE consenting participants. The assessed through direct observation by checklist. inferential statistical analysis done SPSS version 10.0. level significance set at 0.05. Results: A total 95 (out 107) were enrolled survey. mean age (SD) participants 42.45 (8.97) years; 85.3% married majority (64.2%) had completed secondary education. FCHVs, 65 (68.4%), earned monetary income less than NPR.7000.00 per month. majority, 82 (86.3%), adequate but only 21 (22.2%) respondents ever practiced BSE. No significant association found between with selected demographic variables such as age, marital status, educational level, menarche, menopause. Conclusion: poor regarding Training should be emphasized improve their
