Knowledge and Practice of Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness among Healthcare Providers in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria: A Qualitative Study

Background: Birth preparedness and complication readiness (BP&CR) are strategies to reduce the three levels of delays contributing high maternal mortality morbidity in developing countries. Knowledge BP CR among healthcare providers, especially Primary Health Care (PHC), is poor, counselling on during antenatal care visits not routinely done most facilities Northern Nigeria. It is, therefore, imperative assess current in-depth knowledge practice gap regarding health workers PHCs. Aim: To Healthcare providers` focused PHC centres Kaduna North Local Government (KNLG) Area State, Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using interviews. The participants were officers-in-charge (the heads) purposively selected from four PHCs state. data collected with a tape recorder note-taking May June 2017. resulting IDI transcribed verbatim subjected content analysis. Results: Two themes [poor FANC poor CR] emerged Conclusions: This revealed knowledge, awareness providers. Therefore, providers should be trained retrained concept for sustained improvement survival.
