چکیده
Background: Little scientific evidence is available regarding the effect of knee joint line obliquity (JLO) before and after coronal realignment osteotomy. Hypotheses: Higher JLO would lead to abnormal relative position femur on tibia, a shift contact areas, elevated pressures. Study Design: Descriptive laboratory study. Methods: 10 fresh-frozen human cadaveric knees (age, 59 ± 5 years) were axially loaded 1500 N in materials testing machine with tilted 0°, 4°, 8°, 12° varus (“downhill” medially) valgus, at 0° 20° flexion. The mechanical compression axis was aligned center tibial plateau. Contact pressure area recorded by sensors inserted between tibia below menisci. Changes femoral plane obtained an optical tracking system. Results: Both medial lateral caused significant tibiofemoral subluxation distribution changes. Medial (varus) subluxate medially down slope plateau, vice versa for (valgus) downslopes ( P < .01), giving 6-mm range subluxation. areas peak moved 12 mm 8 across condyles, onto downhill meniscus “uphill” spine. had only small effects maximum Conclusion: A 4° change during load bearing mediolateral slid plateau abut eminence also rest meniscus. This large movements pressures each compartment. Clinical Relevance: These results provide important information understanding consequences creating clinical practice terms osteotomy planning JLO. provides guidance choice single- or double-level Excessive alteration may cause articulation chondral meniscal loading.

Tibiofemoral joint contact force in deep knee flexion and its consideration in knee osteoarthritis and joint replacement.
The aim of the study was to estimate the tibiofemoral joint force in deep flexion to consider how the mechanical load affects the knee. We hypothesize that the joint force should not become sufficiently large to damage the joint under normal contact area, but should become deleterious to the joint under the limited contact area. Sixteen healthy knees were analyzed using a motion capture system,...
متن کاملDynamic ultrasound assessment of medial meniscal subluxation in knee osteoarthritis.
OBJECTIVE Although clinical reports have described medial meniscal subluxation (MMS) in knee OA, few controlled studies have used dynamic US to examine the potential impact of MMS on OA. The aim of this study was to assess MMS in patients with knee OA and in asymptomatic controls by US in different weight-bearing positions. METHODS In a cross-sectional controlled study, MMS was evaluated by U...
متن کاملFunctional Anatomy in Knee Osteoarthritis: Patellofemoral Joint vs. Tibiofemoral Joint
“Knee Joint Osteoarthritis” is the topic chosen for the first editorial of the second volume of this journal. The aim of this editorial is to discuss this interesting but little analyzed topic in the current literature, in order to explain and help readers to better understand the functional anatomical aspects of knee joints affected by Osteoarthritis (OA). As the knee joint is tri-compartmenta...
متن کاملThe Effect of High Heel Shoes on Tibiofemoral and Patellofemoral joint Contact Forces and Muscle Forces
Introduction: High heel shoes affect the knee joint and can cause arthritis in the tibiofemoral (TFJ) and patellofemoral joints (PFJ). There is a dearth of research investigating the contact forces of TFJ and PFJ. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the effect of high heel shoes on muscle forces as well as TFJ, and PFJ contact forces during walking. Materials & Methods: A tot...
متن کاملSubject-specific knee joint geometry improves predictions of medial tibiofemoral contact forces.
Estimating tibiofemoral joint contact forces is important for understanding the initiation and progression of knee osteoarthritis. However, tibiofemoral contact force predictions are influenced by many factors including muscle forces and anatomical representations of the knee joint. This study aimed to investigate the influence of subject-specific geometry and knee joint kinematics on the predi...
