Kinetic equations for thermal degradation of polymers
Kinetic equations are analyzed for thermal degradation of polymers. The governing relations are based on the fragmentation–annihilation concept. Explicit solutions to these equations are derived in two particular cases of interest. For arbitrary values of adjustable parameters, the evolution of the number-average and mass-average molecular weights of polymers is analyzed numerically. Good agree...
متن کاملGeneralized kinetic master plots for the thermal degradation of polymers following a random scission mechanism.
In this paper, the f(alpha) conversion functions for random scission mechanisms have been proposed to allow for the construction of generalized master plots suitable for these kinds of mechanisms. The master plots have been validated by their application to simulated data and to the thermal degradation of poly(butylene terephthalate), polyethylene, and poly(tetrafluoroethylene).
متن کاملThermal and Oxidative Degradation of Polymers
In recent decades synthetic polymeric materials, because of their unique physical properties, have rapidly replaced more traditional materials such as steel and nonferrous metals, as well as natural polymeric materials such as wood, cotton, and natural rubber. However, one weak aspect of synthetic polymeric materials compared with steel and other metals is that these materials are combustible u...
متن کاملThermal Degradation of Polymers at High Temperatures
Work on thermal ~egradation of poly mers has prev iously been carried out aL lempC'mt ures up to about 500 G. In the present work the range has been extend cd to 850 0 C. Polystyrene was pyrolyzed in a vacuum and also in helium at atmos pheric pressure at 3620 and at 850 0 C. Analysis of t he volatile products indicates that higher temperatures a nd hi~her. pressures cause a greater fragmen tat...
متن کاملBET, thermal degradation, and FTIR spectras of triazine polyamine polymers
Here we show effect of the polyamine polymer chain length to BET isotherms. According to IUPAC classification [1], all three polymers are fitting type 1 physical adsorption isotherm with H3 hysteresis (except for EDA having H2 hysteresis). Moreover, TG and TGA analysis of polymers triazine-ethylenediamine (EDA) and triazine-triethylenetetramine (TETA) are provided. Due to the similarities of th...
