Karyotype of <i>Phaius tankervilleae</i> and <i>Phaius amboinensis</i> orchid

Phaius tankervilleae and amboinensis orchids are decorative that have high ornamental value classified as endangered plants. Genetic information from the P. will be useful for plant breeders to develop a strategy in improvement program. The aim of study was determine karyotype pattern orchids. Chromosomes obtained meristematic root tips each species were used construct idiogram squash method. results showed chromosome numbers formulae 2n=2x=44=44 m (metacentric) 2n=2x= 46=44m+2sm (sub-metacentric). Intrachromosomal Asymmetry Index (A1) tankervillae 0,10 0,15, indicates both them tend metacentric type. Interchromosomal (A2) 0,37 0,34, sufficient varies size chromosomes.
