Judiciary institutions and violent crime in American Indian nations

In many American Indian nations the security situation is dire. While scholars have studied how institutions shape economic development in and Alaska Native (AIAN) nations, role of AIAN for violent crime has received much less attention—despite extensive literature highlighting important effective legitimate long-term decline violence. We analyze varying types polities judiciary fare tackling using data across 146 polities. Our findings indicate that more autonomous criminal justice with specialized court systems are associated lower crime.
