Joint Gravity and Seismic Reflection Methods to Characterize the Deep Aquifers in Arid Ain El Beidha Plain (Central Tunisia, North Africa)

Electric resistivity sounding and tomography, as well electromagnetic sounding, are the classical methods frequently used for hydrogeological studies. In this work, we propose development implementation of an original integrated approach using unconventional hydro–geophysical gravity seismic reflection fast, large–scale characterization potential Ain El Beidha plain (central Tunisia) analogue. Extending values vintage petroleum profiles data, in conjunction with available geological information, performed advanced analysis to characterize geometry deep tertiary (Oligocene Eocene) aquifers arid area. Residual tilt angle maps revealed that most anomalies have a short wavelength. The study area was mainly composed three major areas: Oued Ben Zitoun basins, which both related negative trends corresponding low–density subsiding depocenters. These basins separated by important NE–SW trend called “El Gonna–J. Mguataa–Kroumet Zemla” high. Evaluation superposition detected lineaments Euler deconvolution solutions’ showed several N–S relay system faults. 3D density inversion model lateral vertical cutting plane suggested presence two different tectonic styles (thin VS thick). Results from were concordance analysis. Oligocene Eocene horizons calibrated hydraulic wells surrounding outcrops. reservoirs appear very fractured compartmented. faulting network also plays role enhancing groundwater recharge process aquifers. Finally, generated isochron provided excellent opportunity develop future comprehensive exploration surveys over smaller more favorable areas’ sub–basins.
