“It’s Not for Everybody”: Life in Arizona’s Sparsely Populated Areas

چکیده
Sparsely populated regions (SPRs) have specific features like remoteness and low population densities but also identities constructed by their inhabitants based on relationship with environment the consequences to lifestyles. Although theoretical frameworks been developed for SPRs, two challenges remain when it comes applying them actual places. The first one is identifying map. What would demographic threshold of “sparse” be? How do we quantify isolation? second evaluating how SPR reverberate in lifestyle self-image inhabitants. are views about themselves geographical situation? Are they linked? This article attempts elaborate both dimensions. It uses state Arizona as a test area proposes an approach that combines quantitative methods geographic information systems determine which part can be considered qualitative analysis analyze this sees conceptualizes its lifestyle, well relate more densely areas, especially issue isolation relative place attachment identity. As result, will offer better grasp SPRs United States suggest new trends investigated other contexts.

However, despite this and a heavy expansion of welfare undertakings a significant depopulation has taken place. متن کاملPopulation Projections for Sparsely Populated Areas: Reconciling ‘‘Error’’ and Context
Population projections are increasingly utilised as tools for understanding and modelling the economic, social, and environmental futures of sparsely populated areas. This study examines issues around “fit for purpose” for the application of projections to remote contexts. We focus on projections made for the Northern Territory of Australia, a jurisdiction in the north of the country, to assess...
متن کاملInteracting Galaxies in Sparsely Populated Groups
We calculated the median values of the following parameters for 87 groups of galaxies with three to eight components: the mean rms velocity of the galaxies in the group, Sv = 166 km/s; the harmonic mean radius, Rh = 29 kpc; and the mass-to-light ratio, Mvir/L = 33M⊙/L⊙. The Mvir/L ratio depends on the population of the system, while Sv does not depend on Rh. To ascertain the relationship betwee...
متن کاملAn Evaluation Model of the Level of Emergency Medical Service in Sparsely Populated Areas
In rural areas, services to support daily life are generally short and a large disparity exists from place to place. This study proposes an index to measure the level of emergency medical service, a minimum service to support daily life, at given locations. The required characteristics of the level of service index are firstly discussed, and then an accessibility type index is proposed with hol...
متن کاملTransnational comparison: A retrospective study on e-health in sparsely populated areas of the northern periphery.
Healthcare delivery in the northern periphery of Europe is challenged by dispersed populations, geographical complexities (including mountainous terrain and inhabited islands), ageing populations, and rising patient expectations. It is challenged further by variations in transport networks and information communication technology infrastructure. This article provides an overview of e-health dev...
