Isotopic Equilibration in Convective Downdrafts

چکیده
While it is becoming increasingly clear that stable water isotopologues are important tools in the study of atmospheric convection, many questions remain on how different processes affect them. This work focused vapor isotopes precipitation-driven downdrafts. Using idealized simulations, contributions rain evaporation and liquid-vapor equilibration analyzed. It shown tends to deplete throughout downdraft's descent, whereas has a neutral or depleting effect first half life cycle an enriching one second half. The total contribution two then discussed, argued overall small compared evaporation. Finally, using sensitivity experiments, role played by varies significantly regimes with concentrations cloud condensation nuclei.

Isotopic Equilibration of Earth’s Mantle and the Moon Subsequent to the Giant
Introduction: Striking, mass-independent oxygen [1], chromium [2], and tungsten [3] isotopic similarities between the Earth's mantle and the Moon, which are readily distinguished from most other Solar System materials, provide a critical but troublesome test for models of lunar formation. In the context of the giant impact theory, the leading hypothesis for the origin of the Moon [e.g., 4, 5], ...

A Lagrangian Study of Precipitation-Driven Downdrafts*
Precipitation-driven downdrafts are an important component of deep convective systems. They stabilize the atmosphere by injecting relatively cold and dry air into the boundary layer. They have also been invoked as responsible for balancing surface latent and sensible heat fluxes in the heat and moisture budget of tropical boundary layers. This study is focused on precipitation-driven downdrafts...
متن کاملModelling and interpreting the isotopic composition of water vapour in convective updrafts
The isotopic compositions of water vapour and its condensates have long been used as tracers of the global hydrological cycle, but may also be useful for understanding processes within individual convective clouds. We review here the representation of processes that alter water isotopic compositions during processing of air in convective updrafts and present a unified model for water vapour iso...
متن کاملRadiatively driven downdrafts and redshifts in transition region lines
We address the hypothesis that downdrafts driven by radiatively-cooling condensations in the solar transition region are able to produce significant redshifts in UV lines as frequently observed on the solar disk and, more recently, on other stars. In a first paper, significant redshifted line components at several km/s have been found from modeling the evolution of an isobaric perturbation twic...
