Abstract. Rahmi Z, Yurnaliza Y, Hastuti LDS. 2022. Isolation and screening of lovastatin-producing endophytic fungi from lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L.). Biodiversitas 23: 4189-4194. Fungi have long been studied for their cholesterol-lowering compounds, known as statins the derivatives through fermentation in laboratory investigations. Therefore, this study aimed to isolate screen fungal strains capable producing lovastatin. Endophytic were isolated stems leaves nardus) selection ability produce lovastatin was assayed using three approaches, namely negative test against Candida albicans, measurement based on absorbance at a wavelength (?) 230 nm or colorimetric assay, observation thin layer chromatography (TLC). A total 22 fungi, 15 7 lemongrass. The capability confirmed resulting potential strains, Trichoderma sp. CNB 2.5.3, unidentified fungus CND 2.5.4, Nigrospora 2.1.1. Based produced significant zone inhibition C. with greater levels than other isolates. TLC analysis showed that ethanolic extracts contained crude indicated same retention factor (Rf) value standard presence can be investigated progressively optimum production evaluation its activity future.

Screening of Lovastatin Production by Filamentous Fungi

In the present study, 110 fungal strains of Persian Type Culture Collection (PTCC) including some selected strains isolated in various screening projects were tested for their potentiality to produce lovastatin, a competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMG-CoA reduc-tase), the rate-limiting enzyme of cholesterol biosynthesis. The fungal strains were cultivated in a t...

Isolation and Screening of Xylanase Producing Fungi from Forest Soils

Enzymes are distinct natural biological polymers which can catalyze the chemical/ biological reactions and convert substrates to specific product (Haq et al. 2006). Xylanase [E.C.3.2.1.8] are a class of hydrolytic enzymes which can hydrolyze the straight polysaccharide -1, 4-xylan in hemicelluloses which is a noteworthy component of secondary cell wall of plants (Dhiman et al. 2008). Xylan, the...

Isolation, identification and biodiversity of endophytic fungi o Thymus

Endophytes are considered as an important source of bioactive natural products because thesemicroorganisms are able to occupy unique biological niches and grow in non-ordinaryenvironments. Therefore, endophytic fungi of medicinal plants can be developed for medicinalapplications. On the other hand, medicinal properties of plant can be ascribed to its endophyticfungi. Thymus sp. is widely used a...

Isolation, Screening and Characterization of Hyaluronidase Producing Bacteria

Hyaluronidase has a panoramic use in biotechnology processes and therapy due to its therapeutic, pathophysiological, physiological and biological importance. Since much of the preparations of hyaluronidases are from animal source (bovine and ovine testicular sources) with limited sources of microbial origin, that prompted the authors to screen and isolate a new promising bacterial strain ...

Gibberellin-producing endophytic fungi isolated from Monochoria vaginalis.

The role of endophytic fungi in plant growth and development is well documented. However, endophytic fungi with growth promotion capacity have never been isolated from weeds previously. In the current study, we isolated 8 fungal endophytes from the roots of Monochoria vaginalis, a serious weed of rice paddy in Korea. These isolates were screened on Waito-C, in order to identify plant growth pro...
