Ischemic Stroke as the Presenting Feature for Non‐acute Promyelocytic Leukemia Variant of Acute Myeloid Leukemia: A Case Report

چکیده
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients encounter complications mainly due to their underlying disease or chemotherapy. Although they are at high risk for both hemorrhagic and thrombotic complications, vascular complication as an initial manifestation is less common rarely reported, especially in non-acute promyelocytic (non-APML). A 58-year-old female with no co-morbidity presented fever, decreased appetite, headache, weakness her left upper lower limbs. Laboratory findings showed hyperleukocytosis 90% blast cells thrombocytopenia (50,000/dl). While investigated conservatively managed, she developed a seizure loss of consciousness on the same day was admitted intensive care unit. Computed tomography massive right infarct middle cerebral artery territory significant midline shift. Flow cytometry indicated diagnosis non-APML; chemotherapy, platelet transfusion, unfractionated heparin, mechanical ventilation, other supportive treatments were started. managing this case, we faced challenges decision-making thrombolysis, craniotomy, The case highlights salient points dilemmas such acutely ill patient critical care.

A Case Report: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (FAB M7)
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML-M7) is a type of pediatric AML accounting for 3–10% of primary childhood AML and children may present with a broad variety of symptoms including low-grade fever, diarrhea, easy bruising, failure to gain weight and life-threatening conditions. We report a rare case of AML .A 26-month-old boy who presented with weakness and fatigue. He was diagnosed as a case of AMLM-7...
متن کاملRecurrent Arterial Thrombosis as a Presenting Feature of a Variant M3-Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia
Acute limb ischemia (ALI) is a common vascular emergency. Hematologic malignancies are commonly associated with derangement of normal hemostasis and thrombo-hemorrhagic symptoms during the course of the disease are common. However, ALI as an initial presenting feature of acute leukemia is rare. Due to the rarity of this presentation, there is a scarcity of prospective randomized data to optimal...
متن کاملAcute myeloid leukemia and acute promyelocytic leukemia.
The therapeutic approach to the patient with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) currently evolves toward new frontiers. This is particularly apparent from the entree of high-throughput diagnostic technologies and the identification of prognostic and therapeutic targets, the introduction of therapies in genetically defined subgroups of AML, as well as the influx of investigational approaches and novel...
متن کاملA Rare Case of Acute Myeloid Leukemia with Translocation (3:3) Presenting with Features of Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia
Background: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) with translocation (3,3) is a form of AML that may present de novo or may arise from a previous myelodysplastic syndrome. It is often associated with normal or elevated peripheral blood platelet count and increased bone marrow megakaryocytes with associated multi lineage dysplasia. A subset of patients present with hepatosplenomegaly while a few cases h...
متن کاملPromyelocytic Leukemia Presenting as Acute Menorrhagia
Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a unique form of acute myeloblastic leukemia, which manifests by DIVC, massive hemorrhage and hypofibrinogenemia and has a rapidly fatal outcome. Here we report a case of APL in a 38-year-old woman, who presented with an acute episode of severe menorrhagia for the first time and died due to hemorrhagic complications. The diagnosis of hematological disorders...
