چکیده
Abstract:
Background: Brain 18 FDG PET is very useful in the diagnosis of autoimmune encephalitides against post-synaptic receptors. However, little known about metabolic changes other encephalitides, such as Bickerstaff stem encephalitis (BBE).
Objective: to report case a patient with BBE an study and review literature.
Results: A 20-year-old man no relevant history presented emergency department due clinical picture 7 days evolution, characterized by non-painful distal paresthesias 4 extremities, diplopia, instability on gait dysphagia. On day his hospital stay, he alterations awake state. The Bikerstaff's was made. In paraclinical tests, cerebrospinal fluid normal. He received treatment human immunoglobulin (2 grams/kg) for 5 days. An reported hypermetabolism putamen bilateral caudate nucleus occipital hypometabolism.
Conclusion: brain 18-FDG may be subrogate marker understanding CNS compromise BBE.

Recurrent Diplopia in a Pediatric Patient with Bickerstaff Brainstem Encephalitis
Introduction. Acute complete external ophthalmoplegia is a rare finding in clinical practice that is associated with diseases affecting the neuromuscular junction, the oculomotor nerves, or the brainstem. Ophthalmoplegia has been reported with acute ataxia in Miller Fisher syndrome (MFS) and Bickerstaff brainstem encephalitis (BBE). Up to 95% of these cases are associated with anti-GQ1b antibod...
متن کاملTeaching NeuroImages: Extensive vasogenic edema in Bickerstaff brainstem encephalitis.
Ten days after respiratory infection, a 32-year-old woman presented with headaches, ataxia, and diplopia without encephalopathy. Brain MRI revealed extensive white matter, brainstem, and cerebellar vasogenic edema, without gadolinium enhancement, partially regressive during follow-up (figure, A). CSF revealed transient elevated protein level (1.01 g/L) and hypercellularity (123 neutrophils/mm)....

BACKGROUND Bickerstaff brainstem encephalitis (BBE) is a rare inflammatory, demyelinating disease that generally has a good prognosis. OBJECTIVE To describe the course of a patient with severe BBE and multiple medical complications. DESIGN Case report. SETTING Academic medical center. PATIENT An 81-year-old woman with BBE who fully recovered. The patient had transient and very frequent ...

In the 1950s, Bickerstaff and Fisher independently described cases with a unique presentation of ophthalmoplegia and ataxia. The neurological features were typically preceded by an antecedent infection and the majority of patients made a spontaneous recovery. In the cases with Bickerstaff brainstem encephalitis, there was associated altered consciousness and in some, hyperreflexia, in support o...
متن کاملA Case of Bickerstaff Brainstem Encephalitis and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia
Bickerstaff Brainstem Encephalitis (BBE) is a post-infectious immune disorder. It is rare, yet the most severe variant of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) in terms of initial presentation. Moreover, the coexistence of BBE and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) is distinctly uncommon. We report a case of a patient with a background history of Precursor B cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (pre B A...
