Is Academic Entrepreneurialism a Universal Concept? New Ideas and Insights From Contextualisation Beyond East and West

This paper considers the conceptualisation of ‘academic entrepreneurialism’ and develops new ideas insights by contextualising concept. It critically reviews conceptual literature academic entrepreneurialism which is dominated research West reflects its implications for understanding in China. After that, it answers key question: Is a universal concept? By entrepreneurialism, refers to phenomenon that universities are willing supply knowledge capitalising opportunities, managing risks maximising revenues, reputation, or human capital response demands education, solutions society economy, as well developing markets their knowledge-based services goods. draws on global perspective case Chinese higher engages discussions about applied universality limitations making sense cultural uniqueness various contexts. We argue not all-encompassing template but beginning constitutive, continuous complex transformation institutional reasoning different across world. Not taking culturalist presuppositions, from this may be helpful reconsidering, redesigning reorganising research, education engagement beyond East so foster self-understanding entrepreneurial age future-oriented development.
