Irrigation management impacts on cotton reproductive development and boll distribution

چکیده
Abstract Cotton ( Gossypium hirsutum L.) reproductive development is affected by irrigation management and reduced soil moisture, leading to yield impacts. This study was conducted determine how timing moisture affects the distribution of cotton structures throughout canopy. Reduced achieved through varied amounts based on recommendations from an agroecosystem model. Plants each treatment were destructively sampled bi‐weekly squares, green bolls, abscissions counted mainstem fruiting branches. Plant height, leaf area, dry weights flowers, bolls measured. first square peak bloom number in lower middle quarter nodes, where most are located. Reproductive growth sensitive treatments rates squaring bloom, whereas period 90% open boll unaffected rates.

Identification and Management of Common Boll-Feeding Bugs in Cotton
1 This publication was developed to provide a summary of information about common boll-feeding bugs (heteropteran pests), stress proper identification of these pests, and acquaint the reader with the recommended strategies for management of boll-feeding bugs in cotton. The first section of this publication emphasizes the recent importance of boll-feeding bugs in cotton and provides a brief disc...
متن کاملWater Stress and Reproductive Development in Cotton
Water is the most limiting factor for plant growth and crop productivity (Kramer, 1983), and water-deficit stress adversely affects crop growth and yield throughout the world (Boyer, 1982). Crop yields are being reduced by drought and the increasing scarcity of water for irrigation, and changing world climatic trends may increase the severity of the problem (Le Houerou, 1996). Water availabilit...
متن کاملBacteria on closed-boll and commercially harvested cotton.
The bacterial content of specially treated cottons used by other investigators to test human pulmonary responses to cotton dust was examined. Cotton from Lubbock, Tex. and Stoneville, Miss. were either (i) harvested by machine and handled as commercial bale cotton, (ii) harvested as closed bolls with bracts intact and opened under special conditions, (iii) harvested as closed bolls, with bracts...
متن کاملNitrogen (N) Application Gradually Enhances Boll Development and Decreases Boll Shell Insecticidal Protein Content in N-Deficient Cotton
Expression of insecticidal protein in transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is lower in cotton reproduction organs, especially during boll development period. The current study investigated the effects of nitrogen fertilization under nitrogen deficit on boll development and Bt toxin content in boll shell, which is the first target of boll worm harm. The protein synthesis and degradation in thi...
متن کاملImpacts of Bt transgenic cotton on integrated pest management.
Transgenic cotton that produced one or more insecticidal proteins of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) was planted on over 15 million hectares in 11 countries in 2009 and has contributed to a reduction of over 140 million kilograms of insecticide active ingredient between 1996 and 2008. As a highly selective form of host plant resistance, Bt cotton effectively controls a number of key lepidopteran pe...
