Iron mineral admixtures improve the sulfuric acid resistance of low-calcium alkali-activated cements

چکیده

We investigated the sulfuric acid resistance of low-calcium alkali-activated materials (i.e., geopolymers) supplemented with an iron mineral admixture hematite). Geopolymers without and 5% hematite were produced at two alkali contents (Na:Al = 0.86 1.39). Acid degradation reactions comprehensibly studied through three replenishes acid. Results demonstrate that is chemically active upon exposure yielding a short-term increase in neutralization capacity. Prolonged was enhanced high content formulations hematite. revealed minimal changes to mineralogy, molecular structure, micro-scale porosity these samples, resulting less dealumination silicon leaching. Thus, results indicate buffering capacity geopolymers, specifically higher formulations, increases due addition The increased leads lower degrees N-A-S-H cementitious binder. These are important as they may help explain durability synthesized from industrial aluminosilicate precursors (e.g., slag, fly ash, lateritic clays) contain minerals.

Dissolution of Magnesium from Serpentine Mineral in Sulfuric Acid Solution

As the volume of CO2, one of greenhouse gases linked to global warming, in the atmosphere increases, there has been an increasing interest in CO2 sequestration. Aqueous carbonation, which involves the extraction of Mg from serpentine minerals and the subsequent carbonation reaction with CO2 to form the geologically stable mineral MgCO3, has been proposed as a promising CO2 sequestration technol...

Utilization of Mineral Wools as Alkali-Activated Material Precursor

Mineral wools are the most common insulation materials in buildings worldwide. However, mineral wool waste is often considered unrecyclable because of its fibrous nature and low density. In this paper, rock wool (RW) and glass wool (GW) were studied as alkali-activated material precursors without any additional co-binders. Both mineral wools were pulverized by a vibratory disc mill in order to ...

Some Issues of Shrinkage-Reducing Admixtures Application in Alkali-Activated Slag Systems

Significant drying shrinkage is one of the main limitations for the wider utilization of alkali-activated slag (AAS). Few previous works revealed that it is possible to reduce AAS drying shrinkage by the use of shrinkage-reducing admixtures (SRAs). However, these studies were mainly focused on SRA based on polypropylene glycol, while as it is shown in this paper, the behavior of SRA based on 2-...
