Investigation on Losses with Various Emerging Core and Winding Materials in a High Frequency Planar Transformer

In this work, various emerging core and winding materials suitable for a high frequency planar transformer (PT) has been analyzed compared. Core used in significant effect mostly the losses of transformer. Emerging like amorphous nanocrystalline cores were compared against conventional ferrite core. The results obtained showed that reduced by around 48.14% on using or instead cores. Typical copper aluminum windings also with carbon nanotube (CNT), Cu/CNT Al/CNT. Winding was found to be lowest CNT metal Cu Al, metals composite A loss reduction about 56.2% seen windings. Thus, it concluded best possible combination windings, as they give PT. Finite Element Analysis carried out 2-kW PT operating at 100 kHz frequency, software Altair FLUX analysis.
