Investigation of tensile and flexural properties of kenaf fiber-reinforced acrylonitrile butadiene styrene composites fabricated by fused deposition modeling

Abstract Employment of natural fiber for the filament fused deposition modeling (FDM) can be found in numerous studies from different areas. However, presence such as kenaf polymer could cause mechanical properties degradation with regard to loading owing low compatibility between and matrix. Therefore, this study aims three-dimensional (3D)-printed structures composites specimens varying volume percentages fiber. From tensile flexural testings, findings revealed decrements strength modulus fiber-reinforced ABS (KRABS) 0 5% contents which were 23.20 11.48 MPa 328.17 184.48 MPa, respectively. The raising amount at 5 10% raised 18.59 275.58 Flexural KRABS decreased 40.56 26.48 113.05 60 With further addition 10%, increased 32.64 88.46 These results supported by finding morphological analysis, where porosity pull out implied poor interfacial bonding This has successfully demonstrated performances FDM through experimental research.
