Investigation of Residual Stresses within a Friction Welded Steel Pipeline by the Contour and X-ray Diffraction Methods

چکیده

Residual stresses (RS) in pipes welded by a fully automated friction welding process, called FRIEX, are investigated using the contour method (CM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Samples were produced self-developed equipment, which is based on interaction between consumable intermediate rotary ring two stationary pipe sections, varying loading rate applied during of API 5L B with an X65 ring. Mechanical metallurgical properties locally analyzed through metallography microflat tensile tests. RS measured XRD CM showed comparable values; zones found HAZ compressive its adjacent areas. Tensile approximately half local yield strength components also found, mostly internal surface, their values decrease increasing loads. Microflat tests increase TMAZ HAZ, clear influence rates.

Surface Hardness Measurment and Microstructural Characterisation of Steel by X-Ray Diffraction Profile Analysis

An X-ray diffraction line will broaden considerably when steels change into martensitic structure on quenching. The results presented in this paper show that X-ray diffraction technique can be employed for a rapid and nondestructive measurement of hardness of hardened steel. Measurement on various quenched and tempered steels showed that the breadth of its diffraction peak increased with increa...

X-Ray and Neutron Diffraction Measurements of Dislocation Density and Subgrain Size in a Friction-Stir-Welded Aluminum Alloy

The dislocation density and subgrain size were determined in the base material and friction-stir welds of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy. High-resolution X-ray diffraction measurement was performed in the base material. The result of the line profile analysis of the X-ray diffraction peak shows that the dislocation density is about 4.5 9 10 m 2 and the subgrain size is about 200 nm. Meanwhile, neutron ...

Plasticity Effect on Residual Stresses Measurement Using Contour Method

Residual stresses have become an important player in the field of the structural integrity for many years. Having an exact knowledge of residual stress distributions can be essential in designing the engineering components as unexpected failures are inevitable where such stresses are ignored.  There are many residual stresses measurement techniques including destructive and non-destructive ones...
