چکیده
Aluminium—boron carbide metal matrix composites (Al-B4C MMCs) belong to the class of materials extensively used in nuclear industry as a thermal neutron absorber spent fuel casks. This article investigates novel production method Al-B4C MMCs—Friction Stir Additive Processing (FSAP)—as an alternative casting or sintering. FSAP is derived from friction stir welding, which can be local modifications microstructure, it incorporate second phase into processed material. During this study, variant for MMC was proposed, and its mechanical absorbing properties have been investigated. Further, influence irradiation on has studied. Results show that successfully produce MMCs with 7 mm thickness. Neutron causes only slight increase hardness, while effect tensile remains inconclusive.

Investigating the effect of tool dimension and rotational speed on microstructure of Al-B4C surface composite layer produced by friction stir processing (FSP)
Friction stir processing (FSP) was used for the fabrication of Al-B4C surface composite. Al-Mg-Si alloy was considered as the substrate and B4C particles were incorporated into the substrate by thermo-mechanical effect of FSP. The effect of tool dimensions and different rotational speeds on the microstructure and microhardness of the composite layers was evaluated and the optimum process parame...
متن کاملOptimized process parameters for fabricating metal particles reinforced 5083 Al composite by friction stir processing
Metal matrix composites (MMCs) exhibit improved strength but suffer from low ductility. Metal particles reinforcement can be an alternative to retain the ductility in MMCs (Bauri and Yadav, 2010; Thakur and Gupta, 2007) [1,2]. However, processing such composites by conventional routes is difficult. The data presented here relates to friction stir processing (FSP) that was used to process metal ...
