چکیده

To handle the challenges attributed to distributed generators, protection system of distribution networks needs be evolved. Recent schemes modify standard characteristics overcurrent relays, called non-standard characteristics. These are mostly case-dependent and have limitations in solving variety generators. This paper analyses performance six voltage-based on photovoltaic generators (PVDG) penetrated 3-bus, 8-bus, IEEE 30-bus grid, as well 9-bus Canadian radial grid with synchronous generator, wind turbine PVDG penetrations. Besides that, optimum coordination these characteristics-based relays is a complex problem due involvement additional controlling parameters. find best suitable method, comparative analysis genetic algorithm, differential evolution, artificial bee colony, harmony search firefly cuckoo algorithm particle swarm optimization performed for relay coordination. The outcomes thoroughly discussed future research development.

Optimal coordination of overcurrent relays in distribution systems with distributed generators based on differential evolution algorithm

Distributed generators (DGs) are defined as generators that are connected to a distribution network. The direction of the power flow and short-circuit current in a network could be changed compared with one without DGs. The conventional protective relay scheme does not meet the requirement in this emerging situation. As the number and capacity of DGs in the distribution network increase, the pr...

Directional Overcurrent Relays Coordination Problems in Distributed Generation Systems

This paper proposes a new approach to the distributed generation system protection coordination based on directional overcurrent protections with inverse-time characteristics. The key question of protection coordination is the determination of correct values of all inverse-time characteristics coefficients. The coefficients must be correctly chosen considering the sufficiently short tripping ti...

Considering Pilot Protection in the Optimal Coordination of Distance and Directional Overcurrent Relays

The aim of the relay coordination is that protection systems detect and isolate the faulted part as fast and selective as possible. On the other hand, in order to reduce the fault clearing time, distance protection relays are usually equipped with pilot protection schemes. Such schemes can be considered in the distance and directional overcurrent relays (D&DOCRs) coordination to achieve faster ...

Optimum Time Coordination of Overcurrent Relays in Distribution System Using Big-M (Penalty) Method

This paper presents big-M (penalty) method for optimum time coordination of overcurrent (OC) relays. The method is based on the simplex algorithm which is used to find optimum solution of linear programming problem (LPP). The method introduces artificial variables in the objective function to get an initial basic feasible solution (IBFS). Artificial variables are removed using iterative process...
