Inverse design of broadband, strongly-coupled plexcitonic nonlinear metasurfaces

Abstract Hybrid photonic structures of plasmonic metasurfaces coupled to atomically thin semiconductors have emerged as a versatile platform for strong light–matter interaction, supporting both coupling and parametric nonlinearities. However, designing optimized nonlinear hybrid is complex task, the multiple parameters’ contribution response elusive. Here we present simple yet powerful strategy maximizing based on evolutionary inverse design metasurface’s near-field enhancement around excitonic frequency. We show that greatly enhances signal, its magnitude mainly determined by Rabi splitting, making it robust geometrical variations metasurface. Furthermore, large splitting attained these enables broadband operation over frequencies hybridized modes. Our results constitute significant step toward achieving flexible control, which can benefit applications in frequency conversion, all-optical switching, phase-controlled metasurfaces.
