چکیده
Abstract The paper deals with intumescent polypropylene (PP) undergoing extreme fire (burn-through test heat flux higher than 100 kW/m2). purpose of this unusual approach is to explore the possibility design plastic (here PP) resisting burn-through test. A combination commercial flame retardants (ammonium polyphosphate-based compounds containing a char former; AP766 (AP) and FlameOff (FO) companies Clariant Inc) zinc borate (supplied by US Borax, ZB) or Kemgard (combination ZB molybdate supplied Huber, KZ) was incorporated in PP. Use KZ as synergists FO formulations increases dramatically time piercing (formation hole through plaque polymer at 80 s without vs. 280 s (heat flux = 116 kW/m2, propane burner) while AP does not show any benefit. Analyses residues obtained different times combustion solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) 31P, 11B 13C shows formation borophosphates creating glass reinforcing char: it acts ‘glue’ providing flexibility cohesion char.

Synthesis and application in polypropylene of a novel of phosphorus-containing intumescent flame retardant.
A novel phosphorus-containing triazine oligomer poly(2-morpholinyl-4-penta-erythritol phosphate-1,3,5-triazine) (PMPT) was synthesized as a kind of tri-component intumescent flame retardant (IFR). The chemical structure of PMPT was characterized by FTIR, 1H-NMR and 31P-NMR, and the mechanical and flammability properties of FR-PP were measured. The FTIR results showed that the expected chemical ...
متن کاملFire Propagation Performance of Intumescent Fire Protective Coatings Using Eggshells as a Novel Biofiller
This paper aims to synthesize and characterize an effective intumescent fire protective coating that incorporates eggshell powder as a novel biofiller. The performances of thermal stability, char formation, fire propagation, water resistance, and adhesion strength of coatings have been evaluated. A few intumescent flame-retardant coatings based on these three ecofriendly fire retardant additive...
متن کاملThe Effects of Thermophysical Properties and Environmental Conditions on Fire Performance of Intumescent Coatings on Glass Fibre-Reinforced Epoxy Composites
Intumescent coatings are commonly used as passive fire protection systems for steel structures. The purpose of this work is to explore whether these can also be used effectively on glass fibre-reinforced epoxy (GRE) composites, considering the flammability of the composites compared to non-flammable steel substrate. The thermal barrier and reaction-to-fire properties of three commercial intumes...
متن کاملSynoptic Climatology of Extreme Fire-weather Conditions across the Southwest United States
Extreme fire-weather conditions are usually thought of as discrete events rather than part of a continuum of meteorological and climatological variability. This study uses a synoptic climatological approach (weather typing) to examine the seasonal climatology of extreme fire-weather conditions across the southwest United States (Arizona and New Mexico) during the period of 1988–2003. Three key ...
متن کاملKey Role of Reinforcing Structures in the Flame Retardant Performance of Self-Reinforced Polypropylene Composites
The flame retardant synergism between highly stretched polymer fibres and intumescent flame retardant systems was investigated in self-reinforced polypropylene composites. It was found that the structure of reinforcement, such as degree of molecular orientation, fibre alignment and weave type, has a particular effect on the fire performance of the intumescent system. As little as 7.2 wt % addit...
