Intrusion-Associated Gold Systems and Multistage Metallogenic Processes in the Neoarchean Abitibi Greenstone Belt

In gold-endowed greenstone belts, ore bodies generally correspond to orogenic gold systems (OGS) formed during the main deformation stage that led craton stabilization (syntectonic period). Most OGS deposits postdate and locally overprint magmatic-hydrothermal systems, such as Au-Cu porphyry mostly magmatic (synvolcanic period) polymetallic intrusion-related (IRGS) of syntectonic period. Porphyries are associated with tonalite-dominated sanukitoid plutons, whereas most IRGS related alkaline magmatism. As reviewed here, intrusion-associated mineralization in Abitibi belt is result complex local multistage metallogenic processes. A new classification proposed includes (1) OGS-like dominated by metamorphic fluids, respectively; (2) may contain remobilized subsequent episodes; (3) overprinted OGS. Both crustal-scale faults display similar gold-deposition mechanisms. The difference fluid input increase oxidation state CO2 content mineralizing for deposits, while characterized circulation reduced fluids. For IRGS, fluids metals have a origin. defined base metal gold-bearing large-volume intrusions, signature can be small-volume intrusions. Some porphyry, Côté Gold deposit, demonstrate generate economically significant mineralization. addition, many evidence processes or gold-barren cases, source remains debated. Whether activity was essential marginal fertilizing upper crust Neoarchean major topic future research, petrogenetic investigations paramount distinguishing from barren belts.
