Intraspecific Abundance–Occupancy–Patchiness Relations in the Intertidal Benthic Macrofauna of a Cool-Temperate North Sea Mudflat

چکیده
Abstract The macroecological variable of patchiness (Lloyd’s I p index patchiness, P ) has recently been shown to be related inter- and intraspecifically those abundance (numbers m ?2 , A ), occupancy (% occurrence in samples, O lower latitude seagrass macrofaunas. For the first time higher latitudes, intraspecific relationships between three spatial variables were investigated intertidal mudflat macrobenthos Scolt Head barrier island, southern North Sea (53° N, 01° E). Sampling was conducted early July late September 2009–2013 using 710-µm mesh for sample processing. Strong positive interspecific - negative present. Two most numerous widespread assemblage components, however, occurred with effectively constant ( Peringia ulvae 100%, Tubificoides benedii 93%) across whole 20-ha locality therefore could not show other metrics. These two apart, only one dominant species failed a significant relationship; no showed relations any form; ones that have described elsewhere. patterns appear contrast an earlier study at another (the Dutch Wadden Sea), although differences are more apparent than real, but fauna fewer characterising similar circumstances lower-latitude localities previously investigated. Neither developmental mode nor variation local appears influence these patterns. seem may subject latitudinal modification.

Resource Quantity Affects Benthic Microbial Community Structure and Growth Efficiency in a Temperate Intertidal Mudflat
Estuaries cover <1% of marine habitats, but the carbon dioxide (CO(2)) effluxes from these net heterotrophic systems contribute significantly to the global carbon cycle. Anthropogenic eutrophication of estuarine waterways increases the supply of labile substrates to the underlying sediments. How such changes affect the form and functioning of the resident microbial communities remains unclear. ...
متن کاملIntertidal benthic macrofauna of rare rocky fragments in the Amazon region.
Rock fragment fields are important habitat for biodiversity maintenance in coastal regions, particularly when located in protected areas dominated by soft sediments. Researches in this habitat have received surprisingly little attention on the Amazon Coast, despite rock fragments provide refuges, nursery grounds and food sources for a variety of benthic species. The present survey describes the...
متن کاملSpatial and temporal patterns of benthic macrofauna in Gorgan Bay, south Caspian Sea, Iran
We quantified the distribution, abundance and assemblage structure of macrofauna at 22 stations in Gorgan bay, seasonally in 2012-2013. Also, depth, temperature, salinity, DO, TOM and sediment particle size were measured in each station. The highest concentration of TOM was measured near the western littoral zone (10.22) while the mouth part and north-eastern area was characterized by the lowes...
