Intraocular Silicone Oil Removed after 10 Years: A Case Report

Background: Silicone oil (SO) has been demonstrated with concrete efficacy and safety in the therapy of complex vitreoretinal diseases. SO is schemed to be cleared within several weeks or months after tamponade, but it’s inevitable for permanent residual a fraction patients under extremely complicated clinical conditions. Here, we presented case silicone removal 10 years, mainly observe disadvantages long-term persistence. Case presentation: A 69-year-old female pathologic myopia denied trauma history who had undergone pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), retinal reattachment, laser, tamponade 2012 our hospital eye pain headache, no light perception her right six months. The slit-lamp biomicroscopy examination OD indicated evident conjunctival congestion, new blood vessels invasion limbus, foggy edema corneal epithelium, folds Descemet’s membrane endothelial edema. There were obvious emulsified particles above anterior chamber. Goldmann’s applanation tonometry test revealed intraocular pressure was as high 45/17mmHg. From ocular ultrasound, saw that vitreous cavity filled eye; left eye, it showed marked axial elongation posterior scleral staphyloma. We unable obtain more information from fundus photography macular optical coherence tomography (OCT) due cornea. After removed successfully cavity, although there improvement patient’s vision (no perception), she still satisfied relief headache benefited reduction (Goldmann’s decreased 19/14mmHg). Conclusion: Patients PPV should remove time avoid damage, hypertension, lens opacity damage induced by tamponade.
