Intradermal versus Subcutaneous Immunization of Monkeys against Poliomyelitis
1. The introduction of considerable amounts of living, active poliomyelitis virus into the skin and subcutaneous tissue of monkeys protects the animals against intracerebral inoculations of similar virus material. 2. The degree of protection conferred by intradermal is greater than by subcutaneous injection. 3. During intradermal and subcutaneous inoculations, no local or general pathological s...
متن کاملActive Immunization against Poliomyelitis in Monkeys
1. A combination of poliomyelitis virus and specific human serum is effective for the production of active immunity. 2. For each gram of active virus given intradermally as an emulsion, 6 cc. of human immune serum, injected subcutaneously, was required in our experiments to protect a monkey from paralysis. Some degree of active immunity was induced. 3. Immunity, without symptom of the disease, ...
متن کاملIntradermal Immunization of Monkeys with One Set of Injections of Poliomyelitis Virus
1. By means of a single large dose of poliomyelitis virus, distributed at a number of intradermal sites, active immunity has been produced in Macacus rhesus monkeys, as shown by skin neutralization and intracisternal tests. 2. In the small series (four animals) of monkeys so treated, neither abortive nor paralytic signs of experimental poliomyelitis appeared.
متن کاملActive Immunization against Poliomyelitis
1. A single intracutaneous inoculation with a subinfective dose of the virus of poliomyelitis produces considerable immunity. 2. Virus-serum combinations produce an appreciable immunity, providing just sufficient serum is used to protect the animal from paralysis. If there is an excess of serum, the degree of immunity is considerably reduced.
متن کاملExperiments on Active Immunization against Experimental Poliomyelitis
The results obtained in this investigation indicate that poliomyelitis virus treated with tannin, sodium ricinoleate, or formalin does not constitute a satisfactory immunizing agent in monkeys against the experimental disease.
