Interrogating Associations between Polygenic Liabilities and Electroconvulsive Therapy Effectiveness
نویسندگان
چکیده
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the most effective treatment for severe major depressive episodes (MDE). Nonetheless, firmly established associations between ECT outcomes and biological variables are currently lacking. Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) carry clinical potential but with response in psychiatry seldom reported. Here, we examined whether PRSs disorder, schizophrenia, cross-disorder, pharmacological antidepressant associated effectiveness.

Effectiveness of electroconvulsive therapy in community settings.
BACKGROUND Clinical trials indicate that electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the most effective treatment for major depression, but its effectiveness in community settings has not been examined. METHODS In a prospective, naturalistic study involving 347 patients at seven hospitals, clinical outcomes immediately after ECT and over a 24-week follow-up period were examined in relation to patient ...
متن کاملAssociations between Polygenic Risk for Psychiatric Disorders and Substance Involvement
Despite evidence of substantial comorbidity between psychiatric disorders and substance involvement, the extent to which common genetic factors contribute to their co-occurrence remains understudied. In the current study, we tested for associations between polygenic risk for psychiatric disorders and substance involvement (i.e., ranging from ever-use to severe dependence) among 2573 non-Hispani...
متن کامل[Clinical analysis of safety and effectiveness of electroconvulsive therapy].
AIM The aim of the study was to assess efficacy and safety of electroconvulsive therapy. METHODS 43 patients included into the study were hospitalised in The Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology and received all together over 400 bilateral electroconvulsive procedures. Most of the patients (N = 25) were qualified for electroconvulsive therapy due to treatment resistant depression (58.1%). Si...
متن کاملEffectiveness of Electroconvulsive Therapy Augmentation on Clozapine-Resistant Schizophrenia
OBJECTIVE This retrospective case series study of the effectiveness of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) augmentation on clozapine-resistant schizophrenia was conducted by EMR review. METHODS Clozapine-resistance was defined as persistent psychotic symptoms despite at least 12 weeks of clozapine administration with blood levels over 350 ng/mL in order to rule out pseudo-resistance. Seven in-pat...
متن کاملThe effectiveness of electroconvulsive therapy: a literature review.
AIM To review the literature on the efficacy of electroconvulsive therapy [ECT], with a particular focus on depression, its primary target group. METHODS PsycINFO, Medline, previous reviews and meta-analyses were searched in an attempt to identify all studies comparing ECT with simulated-ECT [SECT]. RESULTS These placebo controlled studies show minimal support for effectiveness with either ...
