Interregional migration of human capital in Spain

While levels of internal mobility have been trending down in many advanced economies, the interregional migration rates Spanish young adults increased. This paper analyses movements Spanish-born population aged 25–39 between NUTS-2 regions from 1992 to 2018, including sub-periods linked economic context. The analysis incorporates urban–rural dimension within each region and educational level migrants, a variable that has not included studies. We used flow register data sociodemographic information Labor Force Survey. results show migrations become more unbalanced over time, especially since 2008 crisis. In addition, new trend out-migration cities peripheral detected, which contrasts with former high rural out-migration. A great selectivity out-migrants growing brain drain also found. Moreover, qualified human capital accumulation increasing Madrid.
