STUDY QUESTION Have changes in assisted reproductive technology (ART) practice and outcomes occurred globally between 2003 and 2004? SUMMARY ANSWER Globally, ART practice has changed with an increasing prevalence of the use of ICSI rather than conventional IVF. In 2004, a small but increasing number of countries are incorporating single embryo transfer. There remain unacceptably high rates of...
متن کاملInm-8: Assisted Reproductive Technologies and Genetics
Genetic causes have a considerable involvement in infertility. Well-known examples are some chromosomal translocations or sex-chromosomal abnormalities and Y-chromosome deletions. The most common chromosomal aberrations associated especially with severe oligo- and azoospermia are sex chromosome aneuploidies and chromosomal translocations. Consequently, occurrence of aneuploid embryos will lower...
متن کاملAssisted Reproductive Technologies
Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) are a collection of different techniques designed to help those who are infertile achieve a successful pregnancy [4]. The most popular technology currently in use is in vitro [5] fertilization [6] (IVF), but others include gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT), zygote intrafallopian transfer [7] (ZIFT), intrauterine insemination (IUI), and intracytoplasm...

OBJECTIVE Many definitions used in medically assisted reproduction (MAR) vary in different settings, making it difficult to standardize and compare procedures in different countries and regions. With the expansion of infertility interventions worldwide, including lower resource settings, the importance and value of a common nomenclature is critical. The objective is to develop an internationall...
متن کاملI-42: Do Birth Defects Increase with Assisted Reproductive Technologies
Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) like in vitro fertilization have enabled many infertile couples to achieve pregnancy. Although ART pregnancies have long been known to be characterized by increased rates for certain maternal complications, these complications are predictable based on the mother’s more advanced age - increased medical complications like hypertension or diabetes mellitus....
