Internal Insulation of Preservation Worthy Facades

Abstract With international awareness of the need to decrease greenhouse gas emissions, Danish government set a target be fossil fuel-free by 2050. To achieve that, existing buildings will retrofitted with energy-saving technologies such as improved thermal insulation. In Denmark, larger mass building stock from around 1850 1940s is preservation worthy. The construction typically solid brick walls wooden beams on floors. This creates challenge for energy retrofitting since external facades cannot altered. application internal insulation can influence temperature and moisture profile wall. Moisture builds up in interface between original wall, layer create an environment where mould grow. Previous research also demonstrated risk build-up at beam-ends when applied. Saint-Gobain ISOVER has, together DTU, spent five years developing new system, RetroWall System, which addresses these problems. presented work include short introduction concept, results conclusions field test presentation two sites finished system use.
