Intermediate Isolation System with Nonlinear Lower Structure and Isolation System

This paper reports a study on the Intermediate Isolation System (IIS) applied to existing buildings. kind of application is particularly suitable when vertical addition planned for buildings in seismic zones; such case, an isolation system can be placed at base extension prevent increase, or, better, reduce demand structure. In previous works, parametric response spectrum analyses have been carried out lumped mass models by varying period system. As result, sort IIS design has derived and used selecting solutions that minimize overall response. this paper, above indications are assessed light nonlinear time history analyses, accounting hysteretic structure behaviour The configurations analysed results discussed compared terms peak obtained analysis results, effectiveness robustness applications extensions discussed, implications suggested.
