Interdiffusion in Zr-Mo/W Intermetallics

Intermetallic compounds or solid solutions can form between Zr and Mo/W, in which the multiphase of diffusion may be influenced by each other. Interdiffusion kinetic data such intermetallic systems are highly demanded for material design. In this work, solid–solid couples Zr-Mo Zr-W were prepared fixture method, interdiffusion behaviors at 1300–1500 °C systematically investigated. The results showed that Mo2Zr/W2Zr formed Zr-Mo/W systems. growth constants Mo2Zr W2Zr phases varied with temperature accordance Arrhenius relationship, activation energies 109 kJ/mol 285 kJ/mol, respectively. addition, (Zr, Mo) solution pure as proceeded, resulting a lower chemical potential formation Mo2Zr. den Broeder method was used calculating coefficients solution. coefficient decreased increase Mo concentration. Moreover, energy evaluated based on 145–170 when content range 2–10 at. %. These provide reference composition design preparation technic Zr-based alloys.
